800 FICO Score

Something interesting happened to my credit score at the beginning of 2022. For most of my life my credit score has always been over 700 but never over 750. At the beginning of 2022 my credit score suddenly for the first time ever, exceeded 800. I became aware of my new credit score when I applied for a line of credit and the creditor pulled my credit. At first I thought it was an error. I thought the score being shown was a vantage score rather than a FICO score because never in my life had my credit score been anywhere close to 800.

I ignored the information about my credit score and just went about my normal routine for several weeks since it was a busy time of the year for me. One day I logged into my online account to pay a credit card bill and I decided to look at my free FICO score provided by the credit card company to confirm if my score was indeed over 800. To my surprise my score was over 800 beginning in 2022 and every month afterwards. I checked the heading of the page to make sure I was reading a FICO score and not a vantage score. I took a deep breath and exhaled in relief.

I was very excited about my credit score being over 800. I didn’t jump up and down, scream, or tell anyone, but I was very happy.  I finally achieved a personal goal without actually much effort on my part except paying my bills on time. Achieving a credit score over 800 was a goal of mine because that is the type of person I am. I always strive to be at the top of most things I can control. Several years ago I actually spent a great deal of time trying to find out how to increase my credit score to get it over 800. At the time it seemed challenging and almost impossible and I gave up on trying to get my score over 800 and just continued to do what I have always done in the past and kept paying my bills on time. I was content with whatever interest rate I qualified for with a score in the mid 700s and I didn’t really feel it was worth the time and effort to get my score over 800.

My credit score increased by 75 points in January of 2022 and this is how my credit score went over 800. I have no idea what caused this huge increase and I have not attempted to find out yet. I cannot even remember the last time I ordered my credit report to review it. I intend to order my credit report soon to attempt to find out what caused the 75 point increase. I might post my credit report once I receive it. The only time I did not pay a credit line on time was back in 2014 in order to qualify for a short sale. At least I thought I had to miss payments to qualify for the short sale. The short sale took place in 2015 which is well over 7 years ago so I am not sure if this is the reason for the 75 point increase. It took over 30 years for me to achieve a credit score over 800.
